Schools across Bath and North East Somerset will be celebrating National School Meals Week from October 31 – November 4.
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s school meals service, which supplies over 60 primary schools and nurseries, will mark the week by launching a new school menu. Some schools will also be holding a Mexican themed day– featuring tacos, fajitas or burritos – on Tuesday November 1.
The school meals service, which recently achieved the prestigious Silver Food For Life Catering Mark, will also be encouraging more families and children to try school meals for the first time.
Cllr Martin Veal, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, explained, “This is about celebrating the quality of meals on offer in our schools and thanking all the staff for all the hard work they put in. The fact our school meals service holds a Silver Food for Life Catering Mark clearly shows that we are providing fresh, local, organic healthy and ethically-sourced food to our school children.”
Local food suppliers are also being asked to get involved in a new school food contract, which makes it much simpler to supply fresh produce into schools.
