A new type of mindfulness classes for parents and their babies (under 12 months old) is starting soon in Bath. The classes, run by Mindful Mums, will run every Friday in the Bath & Country Club in central Bath, (just off Queen Square). Parents will attend with their babies, with the classes designed to help the parents relax and de-stress, whilst learning to engage with their babies on a deep and meaningful level, becoming more appreciative of life and what parenthood has to offer in the process.

Speaking about the event, Lisa Slater of Mindful Mums, explained, “Having a new baby is a life changing event. It can be the best of times and the worst of times. For many new parents the busyness of life means that they rush though activities without savouring much of the joy that parenthood has to offer.

“Whilst there are many different activities on offer for the post-natal period, most of them are centred on the baby and mums can feel frazzled as they rush to take the babies to classes with a view to giving them the best start in life. Mindful Mums classes are different. They teach the parent to stop and really savour the current moment with their baby, together, as it unfolds.”

Lisa added that these classes are designed to teach participants practical mindfulness techniques that they can use in even the busiest of lives, everyday with their babies, to break the cycle and derive more joy out of this special time in their lives.
Participants will also be taking the first step to becoming a mindful parent, which can bring greater connection and harmony to their family life. As Lisa puts it, “Mums often put their own needs last and feel that they don’t have time to prioritise their own happiness or even that it’s selfish to do so. But happiness is really contagious and happy mums make for happy babies and children. I believe the greatest gift that any child can have is loving, happy parents. So if you think about it, investing in your mindfulness and happiness is in fact in your baby’s best interests as much as it is yours.”

The first Mindful Mummies – Happy Bunnies classes start on 20 January 2017. Places are strictly limited and no previous experience of mindfulness is necessary. All equipment is provided. Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in easily. Parking is available very close by in Charlotte Street car park.
