Competition time! We have two tickets to watch North by Northwest at the Theatre Royal Bath on Friday 28th July, 7.30pm performance.
Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film North By Northwest is famous for its epic chase scenes, including a close shave with a crop-dusting plane and a treacherous climb across the faces of Mount Rushmore – so how could it possibly be performed live on stage? West Country audiences will soon find out when one of the most innovative productions ever to be staged at the Theatre Royal receives its UK premiere in Bath from Friday 21st July to Saturday 12th August as this sensational show is seen in Britain for the first time.
Every twist, every thrill, every hairbreadth escape is retained in this unmissable theatrical spectacular in which the magic of film and theatre collide on stage. This extraordinary production faithfully recreates the essence of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic film, Ernest Lehman’s screenplay and Bernard Herrmann’s dramatic score in an unforgettable performance adapted for the stage by Carolyn Burns and directed by Simon Phillips with a soundscape composed by Ian McDonald.
Following its world premiere in Australia in 2015, Alfred Hitchcock’s supreme comedy of suspense is being staged in the UK for the first time in a new production by the original creative team opening exclusively in Bath as part of the Theatre Royal’s 2017 Summer Season, directly prior to its North American premiere when it transfers across the Atlantic to Toronto.
Using a combination of cinematic green-screen techniques, video projection, scale models and good old-fashioned theatrical wizardry, Roger O. Thornhill’s race from spies, Feds, a crop-dusting plane and a cool and collected, mysterious blonde is brought thrillingly to life in a seamless blend of live performance and live camera work.
North By Northwest appears at the Theatre Royal Bath from Friday 21st July to Saturday 12th August. Tickets are available from the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 and online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk
