Saltford C of E Primary School has opened it new six-classroom teaching block. The Chair of the Council Councillor, Cherry Beath, cut a ceremonial ribbon to open the new six-classroom teaching block, which replaces temporary buildings which were in a poor condition, while meeting the growing demand for school places in the area.

Part of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust, Saltford C of E Primary is a popular 420-place school with a ‘Good’ OFSTED rating.

Staff and children moved into the new £1.8m classroom block which includes toilets, an office and a group room, at the start of the Autumn Term.

Dawn Elliott, Headteacher of Saltford C of E Primary School, said, “We are delighted with the design and construction of the new six classroom block. The learning spaces are light and airy and we like the contemporary feel of the building.

“Staff and pupils are inspired by these outstanding facilities. We would like to thank everyone associated with the project.“

Andrea Arlidge, Chief Executive of Wellsway Multi Academy Trust, added, “It is wonderful to see the children and staff settling in to these lovely new classrooms, which are giving Saltford Primary the learning environment it deserves. The headteacher, governors and parents have shown vision and determination in driving forward developments at the school, including a new ‘secret garden’ and early years play area as well as the sports pitch. Congratulations to them all.”

The project was funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council and managed by Project Delivery in association with the Schools Capital & Organisation Team within the Council’s People and Communities Directorate.

The building was designed by BBA Architects of Bath and the main contractor was H Mealing and Sons of Bath. Work started on site in October 2016.

As part of the project, and in negotiation with Saltford Parish Council, a new sports pitch, which can be used by the community out-of-school-hours, has been provided at the park next to the school further enhancing school and local community facilities.
