News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

This year’s Christmas show at the egg theatre, Bath, transports you to revolutionary Paris, for a colourful adventure packed with plenty of song, outrageous fashion, intrigue and derring-do from The Scarlett Pimpernel!

Running from 6 December to 13 January, this fresh and contemporary take on the popular novel transports the audience back to Paris where it’s 1792 and the French Revolution is in full swing…

Whispers are rife that a mysterious band of bounders, led by a flamboyant masked hero, are helping French poodles – and their owners – escape to England. Meanwhile, Marguerite is tired of balls, banquets and French fancies brought home by her foppish husband, Sir Percy. As she seeks a better life, she uncovers a string of heroic deeds and artful plot twists revealing the elusive and admirable Pimpernel to be closer to home than she thought…

The Scarlet Pimpernel is produced by the team behind last year’s Little Mermaid, winner of this year’s Best Show for Children and Young People at the UK Theatre Awards. Expect witty wordplay, brave women, not-so-brave men, hysterical double disguises, elaborate hoaxes, poodles aplenty and very, very high wigs. Everything a modern day audience could wish for in just under two hours of deliciousness.

The cast includes Emile Clarke, much loved by egg audiences in last year’s Little Mermaid, who grew up in Bath before training at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts), and has since performed with the Bristol Old Vic, and toured the UK and Paris in productions for Disney and the Museum of London.

The Scarlet Pimpernel is at the egg theatre from Thursday 6 December to Sunday 13 January. Tickets are on sale now – contact the egg theatre on 01225 823409 to book, and for more information including detailed performance schedule and schools discounts. Suitable for ages 6+ and families.
