News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A team of 22 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 at Bathwick St Mary Church School entered the qualifying time trials for the UK Schools Biathlon Championships, which took place at Prior Park School.

The children had to swim a 50 metre length of the pool and run 800m, which is twice around the athletics track. All children really performed to the best of their ability and were a credit to themselves, their teams and our school. Each child were very encouraging and supportive of each other and performed to the very best of their ability.

Oliver, a pupil in Year 5 at Bathwick, was justifiably proud of his sporting success; he came first in his age group out of all the 57 entrants, with a swim time of 38.62 seconds and a run time of 2 minutes 49.3 seconds! Oliver said, “I enjoyed the Prior Park School Biathlon in Year 6 and I am really happy to be going to Leeds for the national GB Biathlon! I would like to thank all the people that supported us.”

Bathwick also celebrated success with the winning team in the Under 11 Boys category. Louis, Oliver and Toby (pictured) came first in the Under 11 Boys category out of the 13 teams that entered from both state and private schools across Bath. The school is proud of each child’s resilience, perseverance and team work that help ensure their success.

Louis is full of praise for his teammates, “I would like to thank Miss Kane and Mrs Dudman for supporting us as well as the parents. A special mention to all the other schools who competed; they did amazingly well.”

The third member of the winning team, Toby, added, “This experience has been really fun and well done to the whole Bathwick team who participated in the event. I hope we do well in the nationals!”

As one parent recently commented, “Bathwick does contain much sporting excellence! What with  Year 6 being  County Cricket Champions 2017 and Year 5 Runners up this year, having County tennis players, GB Biathlon representatives (and much more), there is a lot to celebrate.”
