News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

For local mum Shona, it was important that her working life
allowed her enough time to spend with her husband and two children

For Shona Hillman, the decision to start her own business came from a
need to put her young family first. Following a fast-paced
career in Bristol, she had decided that she wanted to do something
more creative and, having already enjoyed anything to do with nails in
her spare time, it soon became clear where her new business should
lead.

“Nail Grace really started back in 2014 when I was still working full-time, pregnant with my first little one and completing my initial Nail Technician course with CND products,” recalls Shona. “While I loved the creative outlet that the course provided, it was only after giving birth to Luca, getting married, also having Gracie and moving house that it was clear that my family had to come first. So with the support of my husband, I decided to embark on the next chapter in my life as a self-employed Nail Technician.”

In September 2017, Shona launched her luxury mobile nail technician business and Nail Grace was born. “Grace means elegant, courteous, honour, respect and enhance, which is what the business is all about,” explained Shona. “Grace had even been one of the names on the short list for our second baby.”

Based in Corsham and operating within a seven mile radius of the town, Shona has continued to undertake training courses to offer different treatments and to keep up to date with the latest nail trends. Earlier this year, Nail Grace was one of the first businesses in the country to offer CND Shellac Luxe and become a member of the British Beauty Council.

“It is so important to keep up to date with all of the new techniques and products so that Nail Grace can provide exactly what my clients need. This means I’m able to visit clients at their home or work, or even when they’re on holiday, and provide a range of services including CND Shellac and nail art. It also means that clients can be confident that I am fully insured and all of my tools are sanitised after every treatment using hospital grade cleaning products.”

Shona added that the three types of treatment that she offers are a Classic Treatment (from £15), Luxury Treatment (from £20) and Signature Spa Treatment (from £30). “The idea is very much for my clients to really enjoy the experience. The luxurious Signature Spa Pedicure starts when they sit back on their sofa with a drink in their hand, their feet are placed in a foot bath with the CND Spa soak to instantly start to relax them. Next comes the moisturising scrub, which gently removes the dry skin cells for a smoother surface. A masque further softens and gives the skin a natural glow. To finish, an all day lotion is applied to leave skin feeling incredibly smooth. Their feet and body are left in pampered heaven!”

“It’s so nice that I can be there for important family dates and events. I love being a Nail Technician as it works so well with being the mum of a young family, plus no nail appointment is ever the same. As a small, local business, I even do a happy dance when my clients are overjoyed with their nails.”
