News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A special pop-up tennis event for families is coming to SouthGate shopping centre in Bath on 3 February to mark the return of the Fed Cup, the women’s world cup of tennis, to the UK after a hiatus of over a quarter-century and to celebrate Bath hosting the tournament.

The family-friendly activity, which will take place from 11am to 4pm, will test tennis skills on a mini tennis court, involve volley practice in an inflatable volley cage and allow for target practice in order to achieve high scores and win prizes, including tickets to the historic Fed Cup tie which starts on Wednesday 6 February.

This activity is centred around the Tennis for Kids programme, the LTA’s flagship children’s initiative, aimed at those aged four to 11-years-old, and includes six tennis sessions, personalised t-shirt and racket and ball set for £25. In honour of the Fed Cup coming to the city, coaches will be organising more Tennis for Kids courses to encourage children inspired by the Fed Cup to sign-up

LTA coaches from across the South West will be on hand for coaching tips, information on how to play tennis locally and locate Tennis for Kids programmes nearby.

To inspire Bath residents to show their support for the GB Fed Cup team, selfie opportunities will also be available with a life-size cardboard cut-out of the team, which includes the South West’s very own Katie Swan.

The Fed Cup will see Britain’s top female tennis stars, including Johanna Konta, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter play in the eagerly-awaited Europe/Africa Zone Group I stage of the 2019 Fed Cup at the University of Bath from 6-9 February 2019.
