A local charity, Bath Area Play Project, will soon be getting a new set of wheels thanks to a £6,000 grant awarded by housing association Curo and Travis Perkins who together provide a funding pot for local community initiatives.
Bath Area Play Project (BAPP) provides a range of services for vulnerable and disabled children and families across Bath and North East Somerset, many of whom are Curo residents.
Caroline Haworth, BAPP Director, said, “Our old van recently died on the Peasedown St John bypass and had to be towed to the garage. Sadly, it required a huge amount of money spent on the engine to get it working again, more than the value of the van.
“The van was in regular use ferrying items to our projects, from resources for holiday playschemes for disabled children, to food parcels for local families and equipment like event shelters, firepits, wood, water containers, rope and nets and tarpaulin for children to have fun with at our community playdays. All far too much to fit in a car!
“We’ll be able to use this £6,000 to buy a used van with low mileage that will hopefully last us for at least five years so we can continue to provide our services to children and families.”
Samantha Thomas, Curo Business Support Lead, said, “We heard on social media that Bath Area Play Project were on the lookout for a new vehicle and suggested they apply for money through our Community Funding Pot. This is money allocated to us by Travis Perkins Managed Services who supply our materials, for projects that will support our communities and improve lives. We’re so pleased to have helped make this grant possible with our friends at Travis Perkins.”
