Congratulations to the Saltford Primary School mixed tag rugby team which celebrated success at The 2019 West of England Spring School Games, which was held at Bristol Grammar School. The school’s talented Year 6 players qualified for this event by reaching the finals of the B&NES tag rugby competition in April.

Initially, Saltford School was grouped in one of the four pools to play against children who were the finalists from South Gloucestershire, Bristol, North and South Somerset. Each game in this group proved to be highly competitive and after three games, only one single try separated each spot from first to fourth place. As group winners, the Saltford Primary School team went through to the quarter finals to play Trinity Primary, Bristol, which they won convincingly 5-0. Next, a win of 2-1 in the semi-final against St Bonaventure’s Bristol won them a place in the final where they met St Stephens Primary School, Gloucestershire.

“The children gave everything they had and, with some tactical coaching throughout, the final whistle brought much jubilation as the score was confirmed with four tries to three for Saltford Primary!” said Mrs Brook, PE Coordinator. “The children and all of their parents could not have been happier or more proud! It is a truly remarkable achievement for them to be crowned the County Winners for 2019. Many, many congratulations to them all and a huge thank you to Mr Lewis for his coaching expertise.”
