Wiltshire residents are being asked to help ‘change a future’ as Foster Care Fortnight begins today.
Wiltshire Council currently has 165 foster households of all types providing a vital service to children in care.
The council is keen to encourage more foster carers to come forward and provide up to 80 more homes in the next 18 months, as more people are needed to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
Today a pop-up information stand has opened at the Trowbridge Community Area Future Hub in The Shires shopping centre in Trowbridge. People can ask questions and take that first step to considering fostering. The shop will be staffed from 11am to 1pm every working day during the fortnight and information available all day for those wanting to know more.
Fostering can take place in a number of ways including, supported lodgings and overnight short break care.
The council is looking to approve all types of foster carers, but in particular:
– Those who can provide long term settled places for children to live
– Those who have the skills to look after challenging children and teenagers
– Supported lodgings providers
– Overnight Short Break Care foster carers
– Children and young people from overseas seeking refuge in the UK
People wanting to find out more can attend an information evening on Tuesday 28 May 2019 from 7pm to 9pm at County Hall in Trowbridge.
This is an opportunity to meet officers and speak to foster carers to hear about first hand experiences and the support available.
