News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A new service has been set up in Bath to support parents with the challenges and opportunities that come with having a new baby and young child.

Online Nanny is owned and managed by Clementine Maitland, a Norland-trained nanny with a gold standard in childcare training and 15 years’ experience as a parenting expert. “As an experienced nanny, I know that modern day parenting can be stressful and lonely,” she explained. “Parents and carers often struggle with issues such as sleep patterns for the baby and sleep deprivation for mum and dad. There may also be concerns over feeding, toddler behaviour or on practical issues such as taking a new baby on a long hall flight for the first time.

“There is a lot of information out there in books and online, but much of it is contradictory, which means that parents and carers can feel confused and anxious with what to do, and what feels right for their family dynamics. They can easily lose their voice as a parent.”

Clementine offers parents a safe, confidential space for parents and carers to talk about their issue via phone, Skype or Facetime sessions, allowing families to stay in the comfort of their home while having access to expert help and advice.

Each family is given a free 15-minute consultation to ask questions and for Clementine to get a clearer picture on what the issue is. If both parties want to go further, they then book in for ether a 30-minute or 60-minute time slot. This allows Clementine to provide practical and emotional support within each session. In addition, a full report on the issues discussed, along with tips to help, will be emailed to the family after the consultation.

“As part of the process, I am passionate about looking after the whole family,” added Clementine. “Within every family there are many different variables such as individual characters and temperaments, family size, backgrounds, beliefs and life stories. This means that every family dynamic is unique and as such it’s so important to make the solution fit that family framework.

“It’s also important to listen to the needs of the parents and honours their individual views, which means giving guidance that will support them in a non-judgmental approach.

“I truly believes it takes a village to raise a child and it is my firm aim for Online Nanny to be part of this village. Sadly not everyone can afford a full time Norland Nanny, however, by working with Online Nanny parents can reach out and receive the clear, non-judgmental, practical, confidential support and advice when they need it the most.”
