A new eight week course, Mindfulness & Compassion Training For Working Women, is starting in Bath from 30 September. The courses is targeted at working women who feel stressed, anxious or simply overwhelmed by all the demands of work and home, and who would like to become more empowered in their life and place in the world.

The training is intended for all women who are active in the workplace – as employee or self-employed, in the home or in the community, and who are looking to live their life more fully. It is suitable both for women who are new to mindfulness and those looking for a refresher of mindfulness with practical applications in the workplace.

Over a series of eight Monday evenings, as well as a retreat day mid-way, participants learn a wide range of mindfulness and compassion tools and practices to integrate into daily life. The training sessions are a combination of meditations and interactive explorations of common issues in working women’s lives, such as awareness and understanding of stress; self-care; work-life balance; difficult communications and relationships within the workplace; boundaries and negotiation; and mindfulness for the inner and outer leader.

The training is facilitated by Eva Ruijgrok-Lupton, a highly-experienced mindfulness-based trainer and coach from Frome, who is now introducing the course in Bath. Eva explained, “I have worked with women for many years, and see how modern society confronts us with a myriad of stresses, in the workplace, at home, from social media and most importantly, from our expectations and fears within. In addition to this, many women are reluctant to take up our full place in the world, in spite of being blessed with abundant qualities and qualifications.

“Mindfulness and compassion bring us back to our breath, our body and our heart, and make us feel calmer, more grounded and more in touch with what we truly want. In this way mindfulness and compassion offer a solid and kind foundation for resilience in the midst of the stresses of modern life, and a powerful source of wisdom and guidance to move forward and flourish.

“It is wonderful to see how women in previous courses have bonded and supported each other as they grow more fully into themselves and explore new possibilities in their lives. Some have gone on to new careers, others have found greater meaning in their existing roles or more time for themselves. And all have blossomed!”

Eva added that previous participants taking the programme have reported powerful benefits, such as more energy, greater confidence and self-acceptance, better relationships in professional and private life, feeling more empowered at work, and taking new risks in life. Unanimously they recommend other women to take this course, including comments such as, “Do this course! It opened my eyes to bringing the full experience of mindfulness into my life,” and, “This course may just be the best gift to yourself!”

The course takes place at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) on Queen Square in Bath, running from 30 September until 25 November, from 6.30-9pm. It costs £475 for the employed, £400 for the self-employed and £200 for homemakers, carers, charity workers and community workers. The cost includes a retreat day, guided meditations and lesson materials
