News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Children at Monkton Pre-Prep school near Bath are welcoming some new arrivals ahead of Easter with a brood of chickens joining the school.

The seven bantams are the latest addition at the Pre-Prep and are already settling in and laying eggs which the school pupils are collecting every day.

A special run and chicken house have been introduced too, with the chickens also being allowed to free-range during the day in a large designated grassed area next to the new Pre-Prep, which opened its doors in September.

Head teacher Catherine Winchcombe says, “The children are so excited about the arrival of the chickens at Monkton, as are the teachers! Our fields and woodland provide us with lots of opportunities for outside learning and it’s lovely for the children to be able to see the chickens every day.”

“In the coming weeks and months we hope to see other animals at the school. Monkton already provides a great learning environment for kindergarten, nursery and pre-prep age children and our animals are a lovely way to enhance our teaching.”

The chickens will be receiving lots of visits from the school children in the run up to Easter and no doubt will be the star attraction at the school’s next Open Day on Saturday 6th of May 2017. For more information visit www.monktoncombeschool.com
