A year eight pupil from Monkton Prep near Bath has scooped first place in the Independent Prep Schools Triathlon event.

It is the second year in a row that Lawrence Martindale has taken first place at the national schools event in Kent, which saw him compete with over 200 other students from across the UK including pupils from Mount Kelly, Dulwich and Northcote Lodge.

His results from the event which saw the students tackle a 200m swim, 4km cycle and 1.8km run, saw him finish 45 seconds ahead of the rest of the group.

His brother Joseph came second in his event for year 6, and finished seventh overall in the rankings.

In total, five pupils from Monkton Prep competed and finished in the top twenty positions overall, with Year 6 student Elliott Hardisty securing third place, year six Fern Deshon placing sixth and year five pupil Poppy Goode coming 13th in her event.

Headmaster of Monkton Prep Martin Davis said, “We are so pleased to see how well all the Monkton children have performed in the Independent Prep Schools Triathlon event. They all worked extremely hard to prepare and we are extremely proud of their achievements.”
