News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Year 7 students at Prior Park College, Bath, were delighted to welcome Cressida Cowell to Prior Park College on Friday. The multi-million best selling author/illustrator of the How To Train Your Dragon books was in Bath to launch her exciting new book, The Wizards Of Once, a magical, medieval adventure, full of wizards, sprites and warriors!

The school’s Baines House students were joined by almost 300 from other local schools, including King Edward’s, Bathwick St Mary’s, St Nicholas, St George’s, Widcombe Jnr and The Paragon for the event. The fascinated pupils were interested to learn some of Cressida’s advice on becoming an author, with her number one tip being research! Cressida also gave a sneak peak of the latest How to Train Your Dragon film, due for release in 2019.

Prior Park was also proud to sponsor Cressida’s evening event at The Forum, which marked the opening of the Bath Children’s Literature Festival.

Year 7 Housemistress and English Teacher, Mrs Burton said, “It is so inspiring for the children to have a famous and popular author such as Cressida Cowell come and speak to them. Cressida explained how she researches and plans each novel, drawing on childhood experiences and the natural world to bring her stories to life. By describing her own process, it can really help the students develop their own story telling techniques.”
