News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A new hypnobirth service has been launched by a local mum of three to support mothers and their birth partners to achieve the best possible birth experience.

Paratoi is based in Keynsham and was established by Vicki Youdan following the birth of her third child. Vicki explained, “Paratoi is the Welsh for prepared, and following the birth of my third child, Paratoi has grown from my desire to build upon more than a decade’s practice, delivering CBT and mindfulness-based interventions, in a variety of NHS services, throughout the UK.

“I want to see a world in which no mother fears birth, no birth partner feels inadequate in their support role and no health care professional acts in the interests of generic protocol over person-centred care. Whether this is vaginal, instrumental or caesarean, it can be a gentle, calm and empowering experience, unique to them.

“During my personal journey through pregnancy and birth, alongside my ongoing academic training, I’ve discovered that many myths and misunderstandings exist surrounding hypnobirthing and the wider Positive Birth Movement. I’d like to guide you through these fields and accompany you in your exploration of some seriously good science, that today, rightly propels their increasing mainstream popularity.”

Paratoi is launching on 14 July 2018 with a free taster session at The Studio @ The Medical Keynsham and thereafter will be available for private and group complete antenatal KG Hypnobirthing courses, pregnancy relaxation and mindfulness.
