News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The children and staff at the Riverside Nursery in Bath have been celebrating the nursery’s first birthday with a range of activities and, of course, some cake!

A day of celebrations started with all of the children’s favourite activities and a visit from Zoolab, who brought along a selection of animals for the children to see and touch. These included a snake, tarantula, rat, cockroach and a millipede. While the children showed no fear at all and were excited to hold the animals, the same could not be said for all of the staff!

The day finished with everyone enjoying birthday cake!

“What a year it’s been, starting off with no children and now having a busy, buzzing nursery,” said nursery manager Louise Malkin. “It has been an amazing journey, with so many lovely families joining us. Lots of the parents work in the centre of town and feel happy in the knowledge that their children are close by.

“We also now really feel part of the community. For example, we’ve enjoyed working with students on childcare and travel and tourism courses from the nearby Bath College, as well as a group of students at St John’s Trust who brought our children together with older people to enjoy activities as a group. We were also in a perfect place to take part in workshops with the recent Forest of Imagination.”

Louise added that the nursery’s city centre location makes it ideal for the children to make the most of Bath’s beautiful parks, as well as enjoying adventures together, such as searching for the Owls of Bath, walks along the new Riverside path or games with Andy Sportzcoach at Green Park.

“As our nursery grows and expands, we are looking for new staff to come and join our team,” added Louise. “We are also now taking bookings for next summer for our baby places as they seem to fill up fast.
