Downside School underwent both a Regulatory Compliance Inspection and an Educational Quality Inspection from the ISI, on 16-18 October 2018.

The school was found to be fully compliant, meeting all the standards in the schedule to the Education Regulations 2014, which includes safeguarding, as well as all the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools 2015 and associated requirements.

The key findings of the Educational Quality Inspection were that the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements is good. Pupils of all abilities and background demonstrate excellent communication skills and are highly-motivated learners. The quality of pupils’ personal development is excellent in all regards. In addition pupils have highly developed social skills, typified by support and care for one another.

The Headmaster, Andrew Hobbs, said, “The report speaks extremely positively of the school and genuinely reflects its areas of strength and excellence. Anyone reading it will get a very clear sense of the Downside of today and will recognise that the wellbeing of pupils is our top priority. It speaks of a school, which has a very strong sense of the values on which it is based and of its purpose and direction.”
