News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Prior Park Schools has announced that, after a decade of service, Prior Park College’s Headmaster, James Murphy-O’Connor, is leaving the school at the end of this academic year, to take up the post of Principal of Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

During his tenure as both Headmaster of Prior Park College and three years as Principal of Prior Park Schools, Mr Murphy-O’Connor has overseen many developments: the College pupil roll has exceeded 600; the boarding community has grown with nationalities from over 20 countries; new facilities including the Bury Sports Centre and Creative Faculty have been built; and, in September 2016, Prior Park School Gibraltar was opened.

Mr Murphy-O’Connor said, “I will leave with a heavy heart as the college means so much to me and my family. The college is in a very strong place with a committed and talented governing body, SMT and staff and I will remain totally focused on our schools until my last day in July.”

Chair of Governors, Mr Michael King, confirmed, “After ten years, James understandably feels that this is the right time for change. We are very grateful to James for the vision he has shown at Prior Park and wish him well in his new position.”

Prior Park College is actively seeking a new Head and the Governors hope to announce Mr Murphy-O’Connor’s replacement before the end of the Lent term.
