The Kumon Bath South Centre has launched a new class running on Tuesdays from 3.30-6pm at Southdown Methodist Church Centre in Bath. The classes will offer individualised maths and English study programmes to local children of all ages and abilities, from Key Stage 1 to A-level.
The centre’s leader, Jacqui Knowles (pictured above), explained, “I was keen to build on the base on the appeal of the Kumon classes throughout the area and recognised the fantastic opportunity that was offered by the church centre due to its central location making it ideal for families in the area.
“The new class will run alongside the established classes that are well established at the Claverton Down Community Hall on Mondays from 4-6.45pm and Thursdays from 3.30-6.45pm. Throughout the lessons, I encourage the students to initially focus on building a strong foundation in the way they study, which helps them to develop important study skills such as concentration, pace and rhythm. Once they have built this foundation, they will then be able to tackle topics they have not previously studied confidently.
“The independent study skills they develop help them to approach new work, both at Kumon and at school, with confidence and to tackle any challenges they may face in life head-on. The aim is to help the students develop a ‘can do’ attitude, which they apply to everything they do. In this way, as I provide the guidance the students need to take their learning into their own hands, it allows them to increase their motivation to succeed and achieve.”
Jacqui took over the Bath centres having run the Midsomer Norton centre for two and half years. “Taking over the Bath centre has given me the opportunity to open up the channels of communication between the students, their parents and me, while also providing regular and timely feedback. It has been great getting to know the existing students and building new relationships with them.”
“I’m excited about working with students in I am looking forward to building this up this new class.”
