News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The Avon Valley Railway is hosting the first of this year’s popular Teddy Bear’s Picnic with a chance for children to travel free if they bring their teddy bear along too!

The event, taking place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June at the heritage railway in Bitton, features free face painting, balloon modelling, giant bubbles and family craft activities onboard the steam trains throughout the day. There will also be a family teddy bear trail around the station site at Bitton too.

The railway’s train rides will be running from 11am, headed by both steam and diesel locomotives. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic to enjoy onboard and the station Buffet will be offering children’s teddy bear lunch boxes too.

Mark Simmons, the railway’s Commercial & Business Manager, said, “Our Teddy Bears Picnic events are always great fun. It’s lovely to see so many children bring their favourite bear with them to see the railway and have a ride on the train.”

Trains depart throughout the day from 11am until 4pm with a regular service every 40 minutes. Free parking is available at the station site at Bitton (BS30 6HD). Tickets cost £8.50 for adults, £7.50 for concessions and don’t forget all children who bring their teddy bear travel free!
