Oldfield Park Junior School will soon be celebrating 10 years since its school ship – a wonderful play resource in the school’s playground – was opened by Olympic skeleton gold medallist, Amy Williams. However, after 10 years, the ship was starting to look a bit sad and was in need of some maintenance. Year 5 teacher Mrs Green and play leader Hayley Gates-Mutton put their thinking caps on and thought the best people for job would be the Royal Navy.
As a result, CPO Chris Knight (Organiser) Royal Navy, CPO Kelvin Morgan RN, WO Keith Bardsley RAF, Sgt Sean Lloyd RAF, PO Adam Roulston RN and ET CIS Ryan Evans RN recently arrived at the school and started work on putting the ship back together. After a few visits, it was completed.
“Over the last five years, Oldfield Park Juniors has undertaken a whole school approach to improving outdoor play opportunities for every pupil, working alongside OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning),” said Hayley. “In January 2018 the school scooped a top Outdoor Play and Learning Award facilities. So this was why it was so important for OPJS to get its ship back to normal. Thank you so much to the team from the Royal Navy for helping us out!”
