New facilities for families to enjoy in the summer holidays and beyond will be unveiled at a park in Bath next week.

Bath and North East Somerset Council has installed new play equipment for young children and a multi-sports area for older children on an all-weather surface at Innox Park in Twerton to improve the park for residents.

The council worked with the community to develop the plan for Innox Park and allocated £79,000 of funding for priority improvements, secured from developer contributions as part of the planning process. The overhaul of the park also includes access improvements, tree planting and better seating.

The park will be officially opened by Bath and North East Somerset Council’s cabinet member for Planning, Housing and Economic Development, Tim Ball, at 2.30pm on Wednesday 14 August.

Councillor Paul Crossley, cabinet member for Communities, said, “The previous play equipment at Innox Park was installed more than 20 years ago and was near the end of its serviceable life. These wonderful improvements will rejuvenate the park and demonstrate our commitment to encourage people to enjoy spaces like these as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Councillor Tim Ball, who will be opening the park, added, “We were delighted to work with the community on this project and it is an excellent example of how people can come together to achieve something special. I have no doubt that Innox Park will be well-used and a real boost to Twerton for many years to come.”

Since summer 2018, Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Parks department has been working with the community in and around Twerton to understand how Innox Park could be improved and managed in the future, through consultation events and a community survey.

The new play area is focused on play for younger children and features a ‘you and me’ swing, roundabout, climbing unit with slide, play house, a ‘crazy gander’ springy and a see saw. For older children there is a much improved multi-sports area for sports like football or netball on an all-weather surface.

Later this year, new meadow areas will be created at the park and there will also be a community bulb planting event.
