Road safety officers at Bath & North East Somerset Council are working in partnership for the tenth year running to help people make sure they have the right child car seats to transport babies and children.
Car Seat Smarter in Bath on 18 September will see officers team up with Child Car Seat Safety, Avon & Somerset Police and Avon Fire Service to carry out free checks on child restraints at the Argos store.
In-car safety professionals will be on hand throughout the day to check people’s child car seats are installed properly and to offer advice on the correct restraints to fit their child.
Councillor Joanna Wright, cabinet member for Transport Services, said, “It is essential that child car seats are fitted correctly and are suitable for both the child and the vehicle. Having to take into consideration the weight of the child, the positioning of the seat within the car and adjusting the restraint can be confusing for people.
“It is always worth checking that the car seat you are using still meets your child’s needs and complies with safety regulations. I encourage parents, grandparents, childminders and anyone else responsible for transporting children to come along to the Car Seat Smarter event and get some friendly advice.”
The event will take place at the Argos store on the Upper Bristol Road in Bath between 9am and 4pm on Wednesday 18 September.
