Thousands of people across Wiltshire enjoyed a fun-filled summer thanks to a range of programmes offered by Wiltshire Council.
The Get Active holiday programme provided youngsters with the opportunity to take part in a range of different sports and activities in their local community.
At Wiltshire Council leisure centres, the Camp Activate holiday programme provided themed weeks throughout the holidays, whilst camps or activity days were provided in sports including athletics, dance, multi-sports, basketball and dodgeball across a variety of different settings. In total, 25 Get Active sport camps took place across the county attracting 3,276 visits throughout the summer.
Free swimming for under 16s was hugely popular once again with 16,000 attendances across the county’s 16 swimming pools.
Activities were also available for individuals with a disability and 82 people attended activity days, including tennis, athletics, boccia, dodgeball, volleyball and football, that were modified to cater for this audience.
The Fun in the Sun programme was also delivered in 27 villages across Wiltshire. These 90-minute sessions for children aged five to 11 were provided in partnership with Wiltshire Cricket, Innov8 Sportz and District Sports, and saw participants enjoy fun sports and games. Although the sun didn’t always shine, the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the 1008 children that took part.
The Fit and Fed programme was available to children and their families in Trowbridge and Salisbury. At each session families prepared and ate a healthy meal and took part in fun physical activity.
