The Trauma Recovery Centre (TRC) in Bath is running a new course, ‘Mental Health First Aid For Young People About Young People’ designed to help young people aged 14-18 years who are struggling with mental health.

Written by Betsy de Thierry, the Founding Director of the TRC, the course is designed to equip young people with the tools that they need to help friends who are struggling with mental health challenges. The course, which will be held in Bath on Thursday evenings from 5-6pm, is made up of six sessions, each covering a helpful topic.

9 Jan 2020 – How do I know when to worry about my friend and when they will be ok?
16 Jan 2020 – How does a traumatic experience impact our emotions, body, relationships etc?
23 Jan 2020 – Who do I tell, when do I tell and how do I know so I don’t have to be scared I’ve got it wrong?
30 Jan 2020 – How can I help friends who are depressed and anxious?
6 Feb 2020 – What about self harm? What should I do?
13 Feb 2020 – How can I look after myself when so many of my friends seem to be anxious and worried?

The TRC is also launching a course for parents, ‘How to help your teens navigate their peers mental health challenges’, with the aim to help equip parents with information on how to help their teens navigate mental health issues with their friends. This course will run from 5-6pm on 9 & 16 January, and costs £10 per parent.

Both courses will run at the Freedom Centre UK Auditorium cafe, with refreshments available to purchase.
