News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

There’s a packed schedule of events full of seasonal cheer and festive fun at Wiltshire Libraries this December.


On Saturday 07 December from 11am-11.30am in Chippenham Library, children can enjoy a panto star storytime and festive colouring with Cinderella and her fairy godmother. This event is best for ages 3 and over; people need to book a place for this free event at the library.


In Melksham Library on Friday 13 December, visitors can join Alan for conversation, cake and support with living with sight loss, at a Wiltshire Sight community tea from 2pm-4pm – and, with a ho! ho! ho!, be prepared for a special festive visitor!


On Saturday 14 December, families should head to Devizes Library for Christmas stories and a festive craft session for children aged 4-8. Tickets cost £1.50 for library members and £2 for non-members; book your place at the library.

Meanwhile, in Malmesbury Library from 10.30am-11.30am, children aged 6-11 can be booked into a Christmas tales listen and draw workshop, with festive stories and songs around the world, plus the chance to draw a Christmas rondelle to take home.

At Bradford on Avon Library on Monday 16 December, from 2pm-4pm, visitors are invited to come along to the Wiltshire Sight drop-in for free information and advice from a sight advisor.

There will be Christmas songs ringing out in Melksham on Tuesday 17 December, for a Christmas rhyme time from 10.30am-11am; while on Thursday 19 December, both Bradford on Avon (10.30am-11.15am) and Melksham (10.30am-11am) host big Christmas rhyme times, and from 4.30pm-5pm, Melksham will be decking the halls with a community carols singalong for all ages.

On Friday 20 December, Amesbury Library will host a Christmas special rhyme time and action time from 11am; and Father Christmas will pay a visit to Chippenham Library for a Christmas themed noisy Friday from 11am-11.45am.

On the final Saturday before Christmas, 21 December, at Amesbury Library, children aged 3-7 (younger/older siblings welcome) can enjoy a once upon a Saturday Christmas themed stories and crafts event (please book at the library; while at Bradford on Avon Library children aged 3-7 can get festive at a Christmas story time from 10.30am-11am.


In Melksham Library on the same day, 4-8-year-olds can take part in Christmas crafts from 10.30am-11.30am (£1.50 per child, please book at the library); and it’s Tidworth Library’s turn for once upon a Saturday Christmas themed stories and crafts for children aged 3-7 (younger/older siblings welcome) from 10.30am.

Finally on Monday 23 December, people can join Brian for a Christmas story time of festive stories and fun at Melksham Library from 10.30am-11am.

Don’t forget, as well as these special events, each Wiltshire Library has a full programme of weekly events such as rhyme times for toddlers and babies, knitting groups, advice sessions, Alzheimer’s Support, book clubs, board game clubs, storytimes and much more.
