News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

For the first time, The Rock Project in Bath and Wiltshire is moving all its teaching online to continue to boost the musical skills and self confidence of its students.

The Rock Project rock and pop school offers children the opportunity to learn electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals, as well as experience playing together as a band, under the supervision of professional musicians.

Sessions would normally run weekly, after school, in Bath, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Corsham. However, in an attempt to bring some normality to students amid the current situation, instrumental tutors are delivering weekly online music lessons. Students are split into juniors and seniors where they learn a variety of pop and rock songs to cater to all tastes and abilities.

Mike Aris, The Rock Project

“It’s fantastic that we are still able to engage with our students throughout this unprecedented time, we want them to keep learning and making music, as much as we want to continue teaching them,” explained Mike Aris, organiser of The Rock Project.

“It was a challenge to sort out how all the teaching was going to work online, but it’s been worth it, seeing how happy it makes the students being able to see their tutors and their friends is truly fantastic.”

Over the past 12 years The Rock Project has developed into the UK’s leading school for children’s contemporary music tuition, teaching 7-18 year olds at more than 70 schools nationwide, many of whom are also turning to online lessons in the current climate.
