News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The staff and parents of the Royal High School in Bath have joined with other schools across the city to help the local community with donations of PPE over the past month.

The school’s science department has cooperated with other schools to donate gloves and goggles to Bath surgeries, with the Royal High Design Technology department working over the Easter holidays to produce 3D printed masks and laser cut visors out of the available material in stock.

Thanks to the generosity of the families of two of the school’s boarders, who provided two huge consignments of gloves and masks, the school was able to share these, along with the masks and visors, to a number of local nursing and care homes, as well as surgeries in Newbridge, Bath and Harptree, every one of whom  welcomed them with open arms.

In addition, the school’s Design Technology Department and Housekeeping team dug deep and turned out a selection of masks, goggles, aprons and gloves from their own supplies, and with the help of one of the Royal High School Estates team, these supplies were delivered to St James’ Surgery, Heart of Bath, where Dr Kate Rees, Royal High School Bath’s School Doctor was delighted to receive them.

“In this difficult time, it’s important to share positive stories,” said Kate Reynolds, Head at Royal High School Bath. “If we have learned one thing through the experience of living through lockdown, it has to be the overwhelming kindness, energy and determination of so many individuals to help one another.”

Rosemary, Manager of Bridge Care Nursing Home, added, “Thank you so very much for your wonderful donation of the visors and masks for the home. We are extremely grateful for your generosity and your ingenuity.  It is comforting to know that people out in the community are thinking of us and our residents and are willing to help us in such a practical way.  Please pass on our heartfelt thanks to all those who have been involved in your wonderful enterprise. We are very fortunate that so far we do not have any cases of the virus and are working hard to keep it that way.  Your donation will help us to do that.”

Virginia Hughes, Matron from Cranhill Nursing Home, said, “The staff at Cranhill Nursing Home would like to thank you so very much for the visors you delivered. We have peace of mind to know that when the time comes, we have the PPE necessary to keep everyone safe. So thank you so much for all your hard work it is greatly appreciated.”
