News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

It’s been an incredibly successful few terms for the Crescendo School of Music and Art (CSOMAA), with a 100% pass rate for pupils taking their ABRSM and RSL music exams across the Bath and London branches.

“Despite all of the challenges of 2020, it’s been a wonderfully successful time for our students,” said Vita Martinenko, the school’s founder. “During the time that face-to-face teaching was allowed, our tutors were safely delivering lessons in person, before completely switching over to online for the lockdown to keep everyone safe.

“The outcome saw nearly 50 pupils across the two branches achieving a 100% pass rate, with many achieving merits and distinctions!”

Among the successes was piano pupil Megan, who took part in the very first pilot of the ABRSM Online Music Theory exam in August last year. As Megan recalls, “It was a little nerve racking at the start, but then I overcame this feeling and was able to complete all questions.”

In fact, Megan not only successfully passed the first Online Music Theory exam in ABRSM history, but has also received a Distinction in the very first session of ABRSM online Performance Grade exams in grade 4 piano and is now about to submit her grade 5 recording too.

“It is extremely important to gather and perform, even if it is online – the joy and feeling of togetherness in those moments is priceless as always,” said Vita. “Everyone is welcome to join, even if the pupils had only a few lessons and knew only one note!”

Crescendo School of Music offers training for children aged from four years upwards on saxophone, flute, piano, singing, clarinet, violin, viola, guitar, percussion and music theory, with the students working towards exams and a twice yearly concert.

The school employs a range of experienced, highly qualified and talented musicians, who help students to achieve their artistic and musical goals, no matter what their age or what previous musical experience.
