News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Maja, a student at Fairfield Farm College in Wiltshire, has been enjoying some extracurricular work-based learning at Castledown FM, a community radio station.

Maja takes part in the pre-production of a show, as well as helping to present it every Monday morning between 10am and 12pm. Helen, Maja’s mum, explained, “We go to the studio on a Monday morning, sanitise the studio, switch the desk on and make sure we’re ready to go live, put the first part of our show together, talk about what we’re going to do, then… we’re live! Maja is very confident and now shares all sorts of things with our listeners.”

Castledown FM is a Wiltshire-based radio station run by a team of over 60 volunteers from the local community – a mix of presenters, engineers and co-ordinators.  Initially launched as Castledown Radio in 2005, the radio was part of the Integration of Communities Project, funded by the EU and DEFRA. Following a successful period of online broadcasting, FM broadcasting began in November 2006.
