News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The team behind local forest school and woodland activity centre Hidden Woods is busy getting everything ready to reopen its gates from 29 March, to offer some post-lockdown time in nature, and the chance to get crafty around the camp fire.

“After another tough few months, with perhaps more time spent indoors and on screens than any of us would have liked, we’re really excited to be starting back up with our mix of magical offerings for children, families and adults,” said Hidden Woods founder and forest school leader, Steve Sutherland. “Good Friday is actually the ninth anniversary of us launching Hidden Woods, so it feels fitting that it’s our first big day back. We’re hoping that the sorts of activities we offer will be more sought after than ever!”

Set in 80 acres of ancient woodland between Bath and Frome (next to the Bath Lodge Castle Hotel, BA2 7NH), Hidden Woods is a purpose-built woodland camp offering a wide range of inspirational activities and experiences for all ages. These include weekly toddler sessions, school holiday clubs, family mornings, birthday parties and adult team days out.

“We’ll be starting back with our Saplings toddler sessions every Friday, plus school holiday clubs over the Easter break and some small birthday parties too,” added Steve. “As a Covid-secure venue based entirely outdoors, with fresh air and space aplenty, we are relishing the opportunity to get back out there and do what we do best – creating magical, powerful experiences from our truly stunning woodland camp.

“We’re thrilled that the latest restrictions will ease just in time for us to offer Woodland Holiday Clubs again from 6-15 April over the Easter break. These offer dreamy days packed with activities for children aged eight years and over, following the forest school ethos of facilitating child-led learning and discovery in the outdoors.

“No two days are ever the same at holiday clubs. We take our lead from the interests of the children and the conditions on the day, exploring areas like bushcraft, environmental art, woodland crafts and games, campfire cooking, journeying through the woods and of course, free play.

“Due to popular demand, we have now opened up a Home Ed Forest School group every Thursday morning during term time. The new morning group starts at 9.30am and finishes at 12pm. With a small group of parents and children and a highly experienced Hidden Woods leader, these sessions provide many rich opportunities for learning and play.

“Being outdoors with space and fresh air aplenty, our woodland camp is made for covid-secure events! We’re therefore delighted to be able to offer small Birthday Parties activity sessions once again and have availability from May onwards. What better way to celebrate than by being free amongst the nature with friends? You’ll find further info, can check availability and book these sessions here.”
