News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Missred is coming to the Forum in Bath, on 7 August, offering a vibrant and exciting new family musical featuring a cast of over 60 young performers and adults.

Missred is set in 1930s England, with Fran Ethel Red, born and then fostered many times in Bristol, about to go on a journey. This time, however, it’s not on her imaginary ship with its crew of friends as she regularly does, instead she is off to explore new horizons in South Devon where Fran will get to see the ‘sea of her dreams’. But how long will Miss Red last there? The odds are not good. Although Fran loves the beautiful surroundings, she fears that the people will turn out to be the same as before. Few, if any, have taken the time to discover what is beneath her feisty, lively and enquiring persona.

Miss Red’s arrival in the close-knit community causes dismay and curiosity, and will ultimately create divisions. Will this boisterous live-wire only shock and outrage or can she also spark new vitality and warmth in some of the troubled and unfulfilled populous?

Described as ‘a sure fire hit- that you simply must see!’ by the British Theatre Guide, in its early stages the show  was awarded two masterclasses with Claude- Michel Schonberg (composer of Les Miserables), while a song from the show, Filament, reached the finals of the Stiles and Drewe best song in a new musical.

The fully development MISSRED, is being directed by Tristan Carter of Curtain Up theatre school and will be staged back in Bath with a cast of over 60 highly talented young people and adults, including West End performers, Jemima Penny (Voice Kids UK 2020) and the lead ‘kid’, Miss Red, Sophia Guarino, who recently toured with Nativity the musical. The stunning art deco venue of The Forum will provide the perfect setting for this upbeat, heart-warming, toe tapping, large scale, family musical.

Missred features a wealth of young talent from Bath base theatre schools

“The production features a wide variety of local talent,” explained writer Mel Lawman. “Many of the ‘kids’ cast enjoy dance training at The Dorothy Coleborn School of Dance in Bath. We also have singers who have performed with The Kingdom Choir and The Bath Abbey choir, along with those who have been members of Bath Abbey Melody Makers. Several of the children have performed at the Theatre Royal, Bath in the pantomimes and other productions staged there, such as Peter Pan, Stepping Out, and Shrek, while others still attend Curtain Up theatre school, the Bath Acting and Theatre Studio and Stagecoach in Trowbridge, Cheltenham and Bristol.”
