Congratulations to Year 10 pupil Isabelle Chappell from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham, who has placed first in the South West regional finals of the Future Chef competition. All students who are studying Food Preparation and Nutrition and Hospitality & Catering at Hardenhuish were entered along with students from many other schools across the country.
Future Chef is an initiative by the organisation Springboard, helping young people aged 12-16 to learn to cook. It inspires them to explore food and cooking as a life skill by developing their culinary talent and informing them about entry routes into the hospitality industry.
For the South West finals, Isabelle created an outstanding fruit tart, comprised of sweet short crust pastry, crème patisserie, fresh fruit and a fruit glaze. This beautiful tarte tastes as good as it looks!
Isabelle was awarded her prizes virtually by celebrity chef Brian Turner and as part of her prize, took part in a separate virtual cook-a-long, using local ingredients. She also won a set of knives, apron, skull cap and other cooking equipment.
“I was shocked and thrilled to have won the competition,” said Isabelle. “It has given me a real confidence boost for my GCSEs. I enjoyed meeting Brian Turner and working with the chefs during the live cook along.”
Well done to all of our Y10 Food Preparation and Hospitality & Catering students who entered this competition, and especially to Isabelle on this fabulous achievement.
