News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

First Steps Bath community nursery is thrilled to have received £1,000 grant funding from The Quartet Community Foundation to fund early years practitioner time to grow vegetables with children and their families in the outdoor education areas and purchase tools, seeds and planters.

This project links with the outdoor learning that the nursery is providing alongside families and is part of its ethos of ‘childhoodnature’, the idea that children are natural and that human health and wellbeing is linked to the environment.

“Supported by an enthusiastic volunteer gardening team from TimeBank Plus, we are growing tomatoes, beans,  lettuce, radishes and potatoes, to name a few,” said Roz Lambert, Chief Executive at First Steps Bath. “We’ve also planned a celebration event to share the fruits of our labours.

“This project is one of the many ways that First Steps delivers an ambitious vision of universal, inclusive child care and education. We are most grateful to all our funders and to local charities in the Twerton, Southdown area who work with us to empower families and reverse cycles of poverty.”
