Downside School pupil, Kofi Barton-Byfield, has been invited to play with the Bath Rugby Senior Team over the summer. Kofi, who is an Upper Sixth Sports Scholar at Downside, has been on the Bath Rugby Academy pathway since he was 13 and this move to the senior team is a massive achievement.

Having been at Downside since the third form, Kofi has been involved at every stage of the Bath Academy Pathway and following hard work on and off the pitch, was subsequently offered a Bath Rugby Academy Scholarship Award. He hopes to combine his studies in Mathematics at the University of Bath while continuing with his rugby development with the University in the BUCS Super League.

“The School community and I couldn’t be more proud of Kofi’s achievement,” said Alex Burns, Head of Rugby Development at Downside. “Having been a Downside pupil and part of the Bath pathway since the Third Form, a huge credit must go to all those involved on his journey, particularly the previous Head of Rugby, Mike Baxter. Kofi is a fantastic role model for Downside’s values on and off the pitch. Hopefully his achievements inspire other pupils to pursue their achieving personal goals in any discipline, through embodying these values. I have no doubt Kofi will continue to go from strength to strength on the next stage of his journey.”
