News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Pupils from St Saviour’s Infant and Junior in Bath, recently welcomed Paralympic sprinter Katrina Hart to their schools. As part of the ‘Sport for Schools’ Scheme, Katerina spent time supporting the children to challenge themselves doing some exciting sports activities before leading an inspirational assembly about her experiences as an athlete.

She shared her gold medal with the children (complete with a nibble on the box from her puppy!), her GB sports kit and even showed them her sprinting technique. The children have raised over £1,300 so far taking part in these activities, which will go towards supporting GB athletes and buying additional sports equipment for both schools.

It was a fantastic, fun experience for everyone involved. A Year 1child explained prior to the activities, “I am looking forward to doing the exercises because I have very gripping shoes!’ while a Year 3 pupil added, “I loved getting to race alongside Katrina in the hall in the assembly.”

Mrs Merrett and Joanna Wright, PE co-ordinators at the schools who organised the event, explained, “The children were very enthusiastic and put lots of effort into the activities. We were very impressed with how carefully the children listened during the assembly and with the thoughtful questions they asked.”

The children are now planning on looking out for Katrina as she competes in the Commonwealth 2022 games in July.
