Years 1 and 2 children from Saltford Primary School have enjoyed a visit to Chepstow Castle as part of their studies into the history of castles.
“The children absolutely loved their day at the castle,” said Mrs Perrett, one of the school’s teaching assistants. ‘They learnt lots of interesting facts and had time to explore the castle too. Some children tried on helmets and armour. They also watched a weapons demonstration from our guides.”
The children also took part in a Chepstow Castle Quiz and used their sketching skills to draw parts of the castle. Some of the teachers took it in turns to dress up in armour, with Miss Hansford brave enough to demonstrate how well her chain mail would protect her in a sword fight.
“The children said they had an amazing day and loved every minute,” added Mrs Perrett. “They were all so well behaved and it was lovely to see their learning brought to life. They will now complete this topic back in the classroom, including a project to design their own coat of arms.
