A choir from The Meadows Primary School in Bitton has won an Eisteddfod performing arts competition held recently in Thornbury.
The choir consists of 20 children from Years 3 to 6, all competing in their first competition. Following six weeks of practice, the choir, which has been active for about two years, performed Double Trouble (from Harry Potter) and The Rose by Bette Midler
“I was absolutely delighted with how well the children performed, both in their singing and deportment,” said choir teacher Cara Clark. “They have worked so hard during the past weeks and I was extremely proud of every single one of them.”
Comments from the adjudicator included, ‘This was polished and musically aware singing,’ and ‘A poised and evocative performance.’
Year 5 pupil and choir member Daisy Stone, added, “I love being part of the school choir and was so happy to have won our first competition!”
Headteacher Mr Edwards commented, “We are all immensely proud of the success of the choir. They are a credit to the school and represent our school values confidently. They are inspiring other children to join up and enjoy the benefits of singing together as a team.”
