News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

When the Great Jaydini’s in town, magic things start to happen. Children sit amazed and watch in wonder as handkerchiefs disappear and giant bunnies jump out of thin air, and that’s not to mention the Great Jaydini shoe clean, the Great Jaydini suit jacket escape or the unforgettable card socks prediction.

The Great Jaydini is, in fact, Jay Wells, a vastly experienced and hugely popular magician and children’s entertainer who has been amazing and bewildering audiences across the Bath, Bristol and Wiltshire region for years.

For Jay it all started as a child who would love to watch his magic and comedy heroes such as Tommy Cooper, Paul Daniles, Harry Houdini, Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Brothers. “As a little boy I wanted to be like them,” recalls Jay. “Even back then and still today, for me the best thing to do was make people laugh and watch them be amazed by something magical.”

Jay’s first shows were at the children’s ward where his mum worked as a nurse. “I used to put on magic shows for them to brighten up their stay there and had such good feedback I wanted to carry on making children smile from all different backgrounds. This led me into performing my shows at weddings, christening, birthday parties and private events, and I’ve never looked back.”

Jay now performs his comedy magic shows across the Bath, Wiltshire and Bristol region. “Birthday parties are my favourite events. They’re aimed at children aged from 4-12 years old, and they combine magic and comedy with dancing and games. And yes, the grown-ups are encouraged to take part too!

“There’s also a mini disco, alongside games such as the Great Jaydini Buzz Wire Game and Great Jaydini Comedy Game Show: The Dice is Right.

“For me, every show is different, as you learn what works for different age groups and audiences, and you can never tell what the reaction will be. It’s just fantastic to see the look of wonder on the children’s faces and often they’ll come over afterwards and ask how the magic is done. But of course, a magician never gives away his secrets!”

Jay, who is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Bristol Society of Magic, is fully CRB checked and has full children’s entertainer public liability insurance. He’s available for events of all sizes, from a small group for up to 1,000 children.

And remember, Abracadabra, abracadoo – The Great Jaydini’s doing magic for you!
