As well as being one of Bath’s must visit venues, Bath Abbey is offering a wonderful array of activities and events for families to enjoy this summer.
- First up are our popular Little Explorer backpacks which are free to borrow for 5s and under. They include exciting items to help bring Bath Abbey to life for little ones. A soft toy lion called Abi is included plus colour paddles, a magnifying glass and a mirror to use to explore our beautiful Tudor church. A version for children with SEND is also available which includes sensory toys and a PECS booklet.
- Next, for children aged 6-11, there is ‘Alex’s Abbey Adventure’, a free trail booklet (plus FREE Abbey pencil) which features Alex the Angel’s favourite sights. It’s a chance to look up close at our amazing carvings, stained glass windows and marble monuments.
- Downstairs in the Discovery Centre, you can try ‘Writing like a Monk’ and colouring in illuminated letters. There are also Monk and Pilgrim costumes to try on (available in adult sizes too!)
- A special event in August will be our drop-in craft session ‘Super Shields’ for all ages from 4+. On Saturday 17th August between 11am and 4pm you can decorate a shield with your favourite colours and shapes then take it home with you.
All of the above offers are free with your entry ticket, or you can also show your Bath and North East Somerset Discovery Card.
The ‘Super Shields’ session is all thanks to the fact that Antic Disposition’s production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is playing at the Abbey from 12-31 August, with performances between Monday and Saturday at 8pm.
You can expect to see daring sword fights in the Nave and a romantic balcony scene in the Organ loft in this atmospheric production inside the Abbey.
