Managers and players from Bath City’s men’s and women’s teams decided to spread a little Christmas cheer to the children who are in hospital at the RUH in Bath over the festive period.
Both teams had a whip round and presented a cheque to Lily, the play specialist at the RUH on Friday, which will be used to buy presents for those on the ward both now and throughout the year. In addition, they presented some Bath City Santa hats and other merchandise as well as a ticket for the all the children and their families on the ward over Christmas so that they can enjoy a game at Twerton Park once they are out of hospital.
Men’s Interim Manager, Lee Kendall, said, “Christmas is a family time and we know it must be tough for children not to be at home at this time of year. The players were pleased to do something to help and we look forward to welcoming them to Twerton Park when they’re feeling better.”
Women’s team Manager, Matt Abreu, added, “As a community owned club, we encourage our women players to take part in school visits and attend coaching sessions as part of their commitment to the club. This was a natural extension and we’re delighted to join the men’s team on this great initiative.”
Alongside the managers, players Latrell Humphrey-Ewers, Massimo Sardo and Louis Sweeten from the men’s team, and Ceris Evans and Chelsea Pearce from the women’s team enjoyed the visit. Chelsea is a Staff Nurse at the RUH and popped down from her shift on the Cardiac Ward to join the presentation.
“I’m very proud to both work at the RUH and also to play for Bath City Women,” she said. “It’s great that the men’s and women’s teams have come together to do something that will help the Children’s Ward make a hospital stay a little bit easier for our very special patients”.
A spokesperson for RUHX, the RUH Charity, said, “December is such a busy time of the year at the RUH but it is made even more special and from people’s generosities like Bath City Football Club, which I am sure make such a difference to the patients and families over the festive period.”
