At Oldfield Road Nursery and The Power of Play Nursery, the dedicated team have been working closely with the children to develop key skills through engaging, small-group activities designed to build confidence, independence, and a love for learning. The strategy is part of the team’s commitment to ensuring the children are well-prepared for their next big adventure in starting school.
Each session, Vicki, from The Power of Play and Otilia, from Oldfield Road, takes a small group of children to their learning hubs. For Oldfield this is a cosy outdoor cabin, while The Power of Play has a welcoming conference room. Vicki and Otilia focus on adult-led activities tailored to the child’s developmental needs. These sessions introduce literacy, phonics work, numeracy and trips out to the local community. Vicki and Otilia have been nurturing the foundations for a smooth transition into school life.
“We want our children to feel excited and ready for their next step” says Sally, The Power of Play’s Manager. “By engaging in these smaller group activities, they develop essential listening and communication skills, as well as the ability to follow routines – key aspects of school readiness.
“Alongside these structured activities, we do continue to emphasise learning through play, encouraging curiosity and creativity. With these enriching experiences, we are confident our children will step into their reception classrooms feeling prepared, enthusiastic and eager to learn.”
