Stonar School has launched an incredible addition to its already extensive co-curricular programme – a brand new Flying Club for pupils in Years 6 upwards.
The Flying Club offers a unique opportunity to explore aviation, develop critical thinking and gain hands-on experience in an exciting, real-world field.
Pupils at the Wiltshire school will explore the exciting world of aviation with weekly lessons led by British Young Pilots instructors. They will complete the BYP Wings Syllabus, which includes lessons in: Principle of flight; General Handling; Take-off and landing; Aerodynamics and forces on the aircraft; Parts of an aircraft; Weather patterns and Navigation.
As well as engaging theory lessons, pupils have the opportunity to have practical flight simulator lessons at school, as well as practical flights in a real aircraft. During half-term and end-of-term breaks, both pupils and parents will have the opportunity to fly with a qualified instructor at a CAA-approved flying school.
James Burns, Head of Clubs and Adventure Training at Stonar, said, “Life at Stonar is enriched by a vibrant co-curricular programme. We offer an extensive range of activities throughout both the Prep and Senior Schools (nearly all are included in school fees) and there is always plenty going on for pupils to get involved with. The programme changes termly, with over 30 different clubs and activities for all interests.
“This term we are absolutely over the moon to be offering Flying Club – with the added bonus of one of the instructors actually being an old Stonarian! There has been such a keen interest from pupils, with many of those who have signed up doing so because they would like to pursue careers in aviation-related fields.”
Also new to Stonar’s offering this term are Golf Club and Triathlon Club.
