Dance Feuds showcase at St Mary’s School welcomes 140 performers

St Mary's dancers

This year’s spectacular Dance Showcase, themed ‘Dance Feuds’, at St Mary’s in Calne, was a huge success with more than 140 performers thrilled to be able to dance to a jam-packed theatre audience.

Alice and Lauren (LV) were the perfect hosts, guiding the audience through each exciting performance and introducing the talented dancers with enthusiasm. The entire Fourth Form was involved, with fantastic support from Fifth Form volunteers and Dance Leaders. Each year group presented a unique dance inspired by the theme of Feuds through Dance: LIV performing to Bad Blood by Taylor Swift, MIV taking on Michael Jackson’s Beat It and the entire UIV performing the classic Let’s Get Ready to Rumble.

A standout moment of the evening was the unforgettable performance by the K-Pop Dance Club, which had everyone in the audience blown away by their excellent choreography.

This year also marked the third year of St Mary’s Dance Leaders’ course, giving LV the chance to develop their leadership skills both in school and within the local community. Since January, the Dance Leaders have been visiting Heddington Primary School every week, working with students to create a vibrant Eye of the Tiger-themed dance. The Heddington Primary students joined the dancers on stage and St Mary’s couldn’t have been prouder of their performance. The Dance Leaders, full of energy, care, and focus, expertly guided the young dancers through the evening, making it an experience to remember.

‘We were excited to present the Dance Showcase to a packed audience!” said of dance leaders Bea, Flora, Jade and Libby. “Those of us who had been assisting with Heddington Primary School since January were very excited to greet the students as they arrived ready to rehearse.

“We introduced the students to the theatre space, ran through their routine and let them get used to the loud speakers and the lights. We then lined them up and took them over to the Dining Room, where Mrs Thomas was waiting to greet us with the most amazing dinner. The Heddington Primary students were so excited, and it was so nice to be able to sit with them and talk to them throughout dinner. We spoke about their pets, holidays and their favourite lessons.

“Once we had finished supper, we headed over to the Theatre and the students put their limited edition Heddington Dance Crew t-shirts!

“The students enjoyed watching the other year groups rehearse and then before we knew it, it was show time!

“The show ran without a hitch and it was so nice to see our fellow LVs running the lights, sound, presenting the show and leading different year groups in their dances. We felt a great sense of pride when it was our turn to lead the Year 3 and 4s from Heddington Primary in a warm up and then show their dance.

“We look forward to visiting Heddington Primary school again in a few weeks in order to rehearse the dance once again, as the students will be performing it at a local dance showcase before Easter.

“Thanks to Miss Caldwell for all her help in supporting us and empowering us to run such a positive, uplifting and fun event!”
