Norland is appealing to families in Bath and the surrounding area who need an extra pair of hands at home as it looks to fill student placements.
Known for producing nannies to families around the world, including the Royal Family, Norland is offering parents the chance to have future Norland Nannies look after their children. The students, who will have already carried out practical work in an early years setting, will be spending up to six weeks with chosen families, gaining experience and offering their high-level skills to families who might need additional help with childcare.

There are a variety of placements on offer and the requirements are:
- The child is at home full time rather than in any other childcare provision
- The primary carer is at home full-time to support and guide the student with their practice, as well as host a visit from the placement team. This does not include working from home
- Be fully available for the duration of the placement dates
What is a student placement?
Norland students spend 35% of their time gaining practical experience in a variety of early years settings, including family environments for both daily and residential placements.
Having regular placements provides vital experience that will prepare the students to deal with the real-world scenarios they are likely to face after graduating.
Daily Placement
Norland is looking for families living in Bath with one child under the age of two who is at home full-time rather than in any other childcare provision. You should be able to host a Norland student for eight hours a day, Monday to Thursday for set weeks.
Families with multiples
Norland is also looking for families in Bath with multiples for daily placements, as detailed above, or within a 45-minute drive of Bath if you have accommodation.
Residential
For Norland students to gain valuable experience of living in with a family, Norland is looking for families with two or more children within a 45-minute drive of the Bath area.
One child will need to be under the age of two at the start of the placement, with the other under the age of five. The family will also need a primary carer at home full-time. The students will do 11 hours per day, Monday to Thursday, with slightly reduced hours on a Friday.
Norland Principal, Dr Janet Rose, explained, “Practical placements are an important way for our Norlanders to hone their skills in the real world and the reason why they’re so employable. Every year we look to pair up our students with local families for placements during the academic year so that they can pick up valuable skills based on the theory they’ve learnt as well as help families who might need extra support.”
