The Corsham School is celebrating following a positive Ofsted inspection, having maintained its high standards across all areas.
The report acknowledges how students ‘prosper’ thanks to the school’s consistently high expectations. There was extensive praise for the ‘positive’ culture within the school, with inspectors noting that expectations for behaviour are managed effectively. They also commented on the welcoming, friendly atmosphere and the respect shown from students to one another, stating that ‘pupils enjoy coming to school.’
The Corsham School’s pastoral system was highlighted as a particular area of strength, with inspectors finding that students feel well supported both emotionally and in terms of their physical welfare. The effectiveness of the PSHE programme was praised for its effectiveness for all year groups.
Inspectors commended the school for its SEND provision, commenting that ‘teachers adapt the learning skilfully for pupils.’ They also praised the rigorous systems in place for checking and reviewing overall provision.
The report highlights the school’s dedication to fostering ‘a love of books,’ praising the way that staff encourage students to embrace literature across all year groups, with a highly successful tutor reading regime and an intensive reading support programme both acknowledged for their effectiveness.
The school’s diverse and inclusive programme of clubs and enrichment activities was noted, with high levels of participation demonstrating students’ active engagement with school life. There was extensive praise for the school’s dedication to working collaboratively with its students to improve their educational experience. Feedback from surveys and ‘House Champion’ groups means that ‘pupils are instrumental in shaping the school’ and play a key role in any decisions made.
The school’s careers provision was singled out as being highly effective, with praise for the ‘well-thought-out’ careers programme that enables students to select courses that prepare them well for their next steps. Inspectors noted that ‘students are successful in their chosen pathways, such as going to university.’
The school received praise for the way it prioritises the needs of its students, and for the clarity with which its vision is communicated to all within the school community. It was also noted that ‘leaders are considerate of staff workload.’
