Beechen Cliff School community has been working hard over recent months to produce a book containing 300 pupil and staff reflections of the Covid-19 lockdown and its impact.
“The government announced a National Day of Reflection to mark the fifth anniversary since the start of lockdown and I wondered what we could do at Beechen Cliff to capture this moment in history,” said Laura Bridge, Literacy Coordinator and project lead.

During PSHE lessons, pupils recalled their lockdown experiences and considered the lasting effects of lockdown. In history lessons they considered what a future historian may want to know about lockdown and in English lessons they wrote up their reflections. Tutors helped read through the work and pick out some of the best.
Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, wrote a foreword for the book, stating, ‘This book offers us a chance to reflect, to honour the experiences of those who lived through it, and to learn from the lessons of the past’
“This was a whole school project that got people talking,” said Headteacher, Tim Markall. “I am grateful to Laura’s efforts coordinating the project and also the contributions of so many students, parents, staff and other members of the community. Whilst there are, of course, some poignant and sad memories, many of the reflections are fascinating, interesting and funny and give a unique insight into this extraordinary time.”
“We were lucky to have parental help from the start,” said Laura Bridge. “I am particularly grateful to Helen Stephens, whose gift company ‘From You to Me’ designed and printed the books. We are so pleased with the finished product.”
