Holbrook Primary School is proud to announce that it has officially been awarded the Dyslexia Friendly School Quality Mark by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA), recognising the school’s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all pupils.
This prestigious accreditation highlights the Trowbridge school’s dedication to identifying, supporting and celebrating learners with dyslexia and other literacy differences. The award follows a rigorous assessment process conducted by the BDA, which looked closely at the school’s teaching practices, staff training, leadership commitment and classroom adaptations that promote dyslexia-friendly learning.
“We are delighted to have been awarded Dyslexia Friendly Schools status; we work hard to support all of our pupils and this award has enabled us to refine and strengthen the support our pupils with dyslexic tendencies receive,” said Mrs Cottrell, Headteacher of Holbrook Primary School.
“I am grateful to all of the hardworking staff at Holbrook for working towards this accreditation, particularly our SENCo and Deputy Headteacher.”
Over the past two years, Holbrook has implemented a range of initiatives to ensure that students with dyslexia feel empowered and understood. This includes training for staff, the use of dyslexia-friendly teaching materials and a whole-school approach to celebrating neurodiversity.
The BDA specifically praised Holbrook’s commitment to ensuring that all children feel safe, secure and ready to learn. The full day accreditation included classroom observations, discussion with staff, pupils and parents / carers and meetings with the school senior leadership team.
Mrs Seek, SENCO at Holbrook Primary School, added, “Achieving the Dyslexia Friendly Schools Award is fantastic recognition of our commitment to placing the pupils at the heart of everything that we do at Holbrook Primary School. This award reflects the dedication of Holbrook’s amazing staff, the resilience of our pupils and the strength of our whole school community. I am very proud to be part of Holbrook Primary School.”
Holbrook Primary School joins a select group of schools across the UK who have earned this distinguished status. The school now proudly displays the BDA Dyslexia Friendly School logo as a symbol of its commitment to inclusive excellence.
